House Progressives Score Card

Politically, the Congressional Progressive Caucus plays a key role in defending the interests of regular people in the face of powerful corporate interests. As the largest caucus in Congress, its members could wield great influence in their own party and in the Republican-controlled Congress. That is, if they actually voted as a block for progressive policies. When the going gets tough, they usually don't.

That's why we are telling Congress they should reject the debt deal that mandates cuts to key social programs.

RootsAction believes we need to focus on the Progressive Caucus to encourage/insist/pressure these elected officials to make the right votes and not be subsumed by the centrist Democratic Party leadership. It's instructive to learn how members are voting on the budget, and if they've committed to protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid in a letter to Minority Leader Pelosi which lists the current signees (additional members can still sign on).

We'll be tracking this - and asking for your help in contacting the representatives when they are responding to their progressive base (that's us). Stay in touch with RootsAction's ongoing campaign.
