Add Film on Daniel Ellsberg to National Film Registry

We continue to mourn the passing of Dan Ellsberg, and simultaneously celebrate his life, his civil courage, and his achievements.

In a unique opportunity, we are asking your help add our film, The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers to the Library of Congress’s National Film Registry and honor Dan’s contribution to American history.

A prestigious collection, The National Film Registry adds 25 films per year “to ensure the survival, conservation and increased public availability of America's film heritage”-- with a diversity of films from Citizen Kane, Dr. Strangeloveand Fog of War to Chan is Missing, Thelma and Louise, Word Is Out, and Tongues Untied. (See full list.)

It is simple, everyone can vote, and takes only a few minutes. (Here is the link.)

What to do at that link:
1) Fill in your email address.
2) (Optional) write a sentence or two on why you feel The Most Dangerous Man deserves to be chosen.  Also, add any credentials (historian, film reviewer, film programmer, activist, etc.) that might make the panel at the Library of Congress take notice.
3) The last page is where you put the full title of the film (or films—you can enter more than one) and its release year (2009).
4) Then click on “SUBMIT.  You’re done!  Thank you! The deadline is August 15!

And then please ask your friends, family, and colleagues to vote.  Competition is high and numbers count!

You don’t have to have watched the film to vote!  But if you want to watch  the film in its entirety, click on mostdangerousman.org, for streaming, download, or to get a DVD (the DVD has extras, such as 25 minutes of secret Nixon White House tapes).

Here is a summary of the film:

In 1971, Daniel Ellsberg, a high-level Pentagon official and Vietnam War strategist, concludes that the war is based on decades of lies and leaks 7,000 pages of top secret documents to The New York Times, making headlines around the world.

The Most Dangerous Man in America is a riveting story of how one man’s profound change of heart created a landmark struggle involving America’s newspapers, president and Supreme Court-- a political thriller whose events led directly to Watergate, Nixon’s resignation and the end of the Vietnam War.

Thanks for your help!

Sincerely,

Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith, co-producers and co-directors
